Is this transaction a CGT event?
Walk through your transaction and we’ll indicate whether it likely triggers a CGT event under Australian tax law, and whether a market valuation is likely required. Educational only — confirm with your accountant before acting.
What type of transaction are you considering?
What the tool does — and what it doesn’t.
Australian tax law lists more than 50 specific CGT events (A1 through K6 and beyond). Most fall into a smaller set of common categories: disposals, transfers, creations, destructions, deemed disposals and rollovers. This tool helps you identify whether your transaction likely falls into one of those categories.
The tool returns an indicative diagnosis based on four structured questions about the transaction type, the asset involved, the consideration changing hands, and any rollover or concession being claimed. Where the matter is unclear, the tool tells you so.
The tool also indicates whether a market valuation is likely required — because many CGT events require independent evidence of market value, particularly where consideration is not at arm’s length.
What this tool is not: This tool is not tax advice. It does not calculate your capital gain. It does not calculate your tax payable. It does not confirm the specific CGT event number that applies to your matter. Those are tax matters that belong with your accountant or a registered tax adviser. Prismi is not a registered tax agent.
